Summer Technology Courses With Stipend & College Credits for High Schoolers

The 2009 Technology Summer Institute is a cooperative program with Pima Community College (PCC), JobPath, Inc., Arizona State University Polytechnic, the Science and Technology Center MDITR and the University of Arizona’s College of Optical Sciences. This seven week program will offer high school students throughout the Tucson community the opportunity to take introductory courses in optics, battery and fuel cells, and an introduction to photovoltaic at PCC. Tuition, fees and books will be funded by a grant awarded under the National Science Foundation (NSF). JobPath will provide case management, mentorship and support for the program. Students who successfully complete the course will receive college credit and a stipend of $500. 80% of students who have previously participated in the Tech Summer Institute have continued their higher education in the Technology field.

The program runs from May 26 - July 11 from 8-noon M-F. Every Friday, students will be taking tours of businesses in the optics, solar and photovoltaic industries. Completed application are due April 30 but can be turned in by the end of next week directly to me. Please contact me for more information at 205-0875.

Some students could also be eligible for High School credit.

This summer the UA Educational Leadership Program is offering several online/hybrid classes that lead to principal or superintendent certification.

These include:

EDL 560 – Foundations of Educational Leadership – Required for principal certification

EDL 561 – Principalship - Required for principal certification and prerequisite for the internship

EDL 562 - Arizona Educational Law – Required for principal certification

EDL 682 – The Superintendency - Required for superintendent certification and prerequisite for the internship

This program is a good solution for someone who aspires to the principalship and already has a recent Masters in an educational area. Please pass this information on to anyone you think may be interested. The additional courses required for certification will be offered during the fall 2009 and spring 2010 semesters. A person with a Masters can complete all certification requirements by May 2010 through this program.

Please contact Dr. Lynnette Brunderman( lbrunderman@comcast.net ) for more information and registration. Class size is limited.
