COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Critical Friends:
Participants learn protocols for looking at student work through professional learning communities. (Cost: $450) Intel Teach Thinking with Technology Tools: Sessions focus on 21st century teaching and learning by enhancing effective technology integration skills. Course uses free online tools that engage students and help them communicate their understanding of complex concepts. (Cost: FREE)

Staff Development Specialists Preparation Program:
Participants will learn strategies to develop and enhance presentations to adult learners. Current research, staff development models, and workshop techniques will be shared. (Cost: $160)

Systems Thinking in Schools:
Level I: This 4-day workshop fosters understanding of dynamic systems in a complex world and provides visual tools and learning opportunities that support educational standards and 21st century skills. (Cost: Please Call)
Level II: This 2-day workshop will expand on understanding of systems thinking concepts and tools gained during Level I workshops. Participants will build interconnected loops, create stock/flow maps, and use computer models and simulations. (Cost: $75)

Timely Topics for Teachers:

Teachers may choose from one or all of these workshops. Ideas for “this year” implementation will be presented. SPECIAL PRICING: Attend 3 days and the 4th day is FREE.

Behavior Management and Interventions for Special Needs Students in Regular Education Classrooms:
This workshop will focus on techniques for integrating and including students with special needs into the classroom. (Cost: $75)

Classroom Management Refresher: Topics will focus on approaches that acknowledge and reinforce acceptable behavior, provide consequences for inappropriate behavior, and heighten teacher’s awareness of students’ action in a classroom. (Cost: $40)*

Motivating ALL Students : This course will discuss how to motivate all students including students placed in special education,. Practical strategies and classroom factors will be shared. (Cost: $75) *

Time & Task Management for Teachers:
This workshop will offer tips for managing time, maximizing time, and saving time. Tasks become more manageable with helpful strategies. (Cost: $35) *

Working with ADD/ADHD students:
This workshop will share strategies for working with children and adults with attention disorders, common treatments, 504 Plans, and strategies for educators in the regular education classroom. (Cost: $75)

Native Education Series:
Sessions are held at Ha:san Preparatory & Leadership School (1333 E. 10th Tucson) from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

A Critical Examination of Classroom Literature: Using Books with Native American Themes and Elements: This interactive workshop will give teachers the tools to critically examine classic and contemporary literature and websites. (Cost: $30)

An Indigenous Look at Columbus Day in the Classroom: An overview of contemporary theories and historical interactions based on primary source materials. (Cost: $30)

Contemporary Native Issues:
This workshop will discuss recent American Indian tribal issues and federal policies, as addressed in Social Studies standards. (Cost: $30)

Do’s and Don’ts when Teaching Native Art in the Classroom:
An examination of the evolution of Southwestern Native art and its appropriate use and display. (Cost: $30)

Engaging Native Youth & Their Families:
A crash course on “typical” traits of Native students taking into account the levels of acculturation. (Cost: $30)

Hold the Turkey: Examine historical references and tribal traditions of the “day of thanks-giving.” (Cost: $30) *

Welcome to Chuk:San: Learning about the Tohono O’Odham and Pascua Yaqui Tribes:
This course will discuss historical and modern lives of these tribes and will complement Arizona State Social Studies standards. (Cost: $30)
