Immaculate Heart School (pre-school through 8th grade)

410 East Magee Rd

Oro Valley, AZ 85704

Since we are the elementary arm of a preK-12 school, the high school focuses more on the college and career preparation than we do. Teachers are always encouraged to participate in professional development that heighthens awareness of career opportunities for students. We have not offered this type of PD at our school. Most time and resources, however, are dedicated to current teaching stragegies. See section on parent/student programs for additional information.

Name of Activity: Community Visits

Description: Throughout the school year, teachers will invite professionals from the community to share their "jobs" with the students. An example of this was last year when the first grade students studied the human body and the teachers invited a surgeon (one of our school moms) to teach the class. She brought in visual aids and discussed her profession with the students. Depending on the year and the expertise within our school community these programs are organized. I will say that all participate at one time or another, but this is not specific each year.

Audience: Students.
