Name of Activity: METAS-" Making Education Translate into Advancement and Success" College Transitional Program

Description: One of Toltecalli High Schools missions is to provide students the information, resources, and guidance so they may leave academically and socially prepared and confident to succeed in post-secondary educational endeavors. This program offers students attending Toltecalli High Schoool background knowledge on the college culture and climate. As well as developing educational courses prior to high school graduation to increase college readiness. Students eligible for the program are dual enrolled at Pima and Toltecalli and can earn both college and high school credit.

Name of Activity: ACT-Making Readiness a Reality:All Arizona students college and career ready

Description: The programs focus on a variety of topics, including college readiness, state ACT data results, updates on ACT products and services, and other timely issues. State officals, educators and workforce development professionals examine issues facing our students and discuss strategies that can help education with Couseling,recruiting,retention,and higher education.

Audience: Counselors.

 

Name of Activity: Career Choices 2-Day Implementation Workshops

Description: These workshops concentrate on developing plans and creating models that work best in our school, for our students. The training revolves around the Career Choices curriculum. There is an opportunity to focus on project-based learning techniques, team-teaching tactics, curriculum integration models, and dropout prevention strategies.

 

Name of Activity: Senior Service Learning Project (Barrio Sustainability Project)

Description: Toltecalli High School’s Senior Service Learning Project is a multiyear, college preparatory program that integrates academics, authentic social research, career exploration, and community service. The students of the project conduct research of social interest that has and impact on their lives, family, school, and community. Their research is conducted through a process of high academic rigor that prepares them for the demands of the college and university environment, while simultaneously meeting an authentic need. This intense academic work is done through a model of Expeditionary Learning that fosters the interaction of students with relevant text, professionals, fieldwork, and presentation. Through the combination of these efforts the students are exposed to a variety of challenges and opportunities that better prepare them to meet the demands of their social, cultural, academic, and career goals.

Name of Activity: LEAP week- "Learning.Experience.Aptitude.Progress

Description: The objective to this program are the following

-Help students master the education system by intoducing and providing constant exposure to the various processes of the various education systems.

- Develop student guidance program to provide students resources and information about career options and ensure all students have a career plan by graduation.

- Ensure students are confident in life pursuits by improving their personal and social abilities.

Advisors do weekly workshops with all grade level students and focus on career, academics and personal social. Weekly worshops include college recruites ,active profesionals, and campus visits.

Name of Activity: Financial Aide Year-Round Assistance

Description: As part of our school objective we insist that each of our students have a plan once they finish here at Toltecalli High School. Moreover, it is highly important that parents get involved with their student's academic goals. For this reason, we invite parents to various workshops to learn about student financial aid also known as FAFSA. Once they attend the informational workshop they are encouraged to attend College Goal Sunday where they have a professional help them with the process or their Toltecalli Advisor can also help fill out the application. The Department of Fincancial Aid of the University of Arizona also comes and does workshops.

Name of Activity: Pima County JTED

Description: Toltecalli works with a J-TED a career specific program that allows students to enroll in vocational training programs at Pima Community College.

Name of Activity: ECAP- An Arizona Education and Career Action Plan prior to graduation (ECAP)

Description: All grades in 9-12 will have an education and career action plan that will be updated annually through AzCIS. ECAP allows students to enter, track and update the following:

1. Academic Goals that include identifying and planning the coursework necessary to achieve the school graduation requirements and pursue postsecondary education and career options.

2. Career Goals that include identifying career plans, options, interests and skills; exploring entry level opportunities and advisement; and documenting academic achievement.

3. Postsecondary Education goals that include identifying progress toward meeting admission requirements, completing applications forms and creating financial assistance plans.

4. Extracurricular activity goals.

Name of Activity: College Access Students/Parent Grant

Description: Our district was awarded a grant from the Arizona Department of Commerce that would provide college access services to students and families. College Access Program (CAP) curriculum gets delivered during CREW period (similar to homeroom) for the students. For the parents, we have sessions throughout the year where I, along with college experts, come and deliver parent curriculum. The program consists of academic and career components. Examples include four year plans, standardized tests/GPA, Financial Aid and College decision making skills.

Name of Activity: Talent Search

Description: The Educational Talent Search Program through Pima Community College identifies and selects students who want to attend college and provides them with motivation and support to enroll in a program of post-secondary education. The program's purpose is to address low college enrollment from target schools through mentoring, tutoring, financial aid, and admission assistance, educational programs, workshops and college field trips.

Name of Activity: Arizona Road Trips

Description: Provides Toltecalli students the a unique opportunity to visit the Univerity of Arizona and Arizona State University campuses and learn about college, the admissions process, financial aid, extracurricular activities, residential life and all the different things the unirersity has to offer.
