Name of Activity: Career Choices 2-Day Implementation Workshop

Description: This Workshop concentrates on developing plans and creating models that work best in our school, for our students.The training revolves around the Career Choices curriculum. There is an opportunity to focus on project-based learning techniques, team teaching tactics, curriculum integration models, and dropout prevention strategies

Name of Activity: ACT-Making Readiness a Reality:All Arizona students college and career ready

Description: The programs focus on a variety of topics, including college readiness, state ACT data results, updates on ACT products and services, and other timely issues. State officals, educators and workforce development professionals examine issues facing our students and discuss strategies that can help education with Couseling,recruiting,retention,and higher education.

Name of Activity: MAS 2A and 2B Senior Service Learning Project (Social Justice Project)

Description: Calli Ollin High School’s Senior Service Learning Project is a multiyear, college preparatory program that integrates academics, authentic social research, career exploration, and community service. The students of the project conduct research of social interest that has an impact on their lives, family, school, and community. Their research is conducted through a process of high academic rigor that prepares them for the demands of the college and university environment, while simultaneously meeting an authentic need. This intense academic work is done through a model of Expeditionary Learning that fosters the interaction of students with relevant text, professionals, fieldwork, and presentation. Through the combination of these efforts the students are exposed to a variety of challenges and opportunities that better prepare them to meet the demands of their social, cultural, academic, and career goals.

Name of Activity: METAS-" Making Education Translate into Advancement and Success" College Transitional Program

Description: One of Calli Ollin Schools' missions is to provide students with information, resources, and guidance so they may leave academically and socially prepared and confident to succeed in post-secondary educational endeavors. This program offers students background knowledge on the college culture and climate, as well as developing educational courses prior to high school graduation to increase college readiness . Students eligible for the program are dual enrolled at Pima and Calli Ollin and can earn both college and high school credit.

Name of Activity: Career Center

Description: The Calli Ollin High School Career Center is an integrated source of career opportunities. The career center promotes career learning by providing career information. We also have a variety of resources that give assistance in writing scholarship essays, researching scholarships, ACT preparation, ASVAB preparation and Financial Aid.

Description: Throughout the year, representatives from various colleges present informational programs to prospective students. Representatives discuss academic programs, campus life, financial aid and the admissions process. Representatives answer any questions that students may have.

Name of Activity: Pima College Charter School Orientation

Description: Pima Community College provides Calli Ollin High School students with a unique opportunity to visit a local campus. Pima Community College discusses the many programs that are offered from transfer programs to certificates for direct employment and associate's degrees. Students are given a tour of the campus where they visit the financial aid office, admissions/cashier, extracurricular activities and tutoring center. Students are encouraged to fill out an admissions application as well as register for classes.

Name of Activity: U of A Campus Visit

Description: The University of Arizona provides a yearly campus visit opportunity to local high schools to visit the campus. University of Arizona representatives discuss different career opportunities such as their medical programs and engineering programs. They also explain the admissions process, financial aid, student work study, and scholarship opportunities.

U of A student ambassadors give the students a campus tour while discussing what the U of A has to offer not only academically but also extracurricular. The students are introduced to the residential life in exploring a residential dorm, the library and discussing the benefits of having a student ID.

Name of Activity: Postsecondary Planning and Financial Aid

Description: As part of our school objective we insist that each of our students have a plan once they finish here at Calli Ollin High School. Moreover, it is highly important that parents get involved with their student's academic goals. For this reason, we invite parents to various workshops to learn about Federal Student Aid and the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Once they attend the informational workshop, they are encouraged to attend College Goal Sunday where they have a professional help them with the process or the Calli Ollin High School Advisor can also help with filling out the application.

Name of Activity: Student Office Aides

Description: In preparing our students academically, we also believe that they leave with work experience. Student Office Aides are trained with front office skills which consist of answering phones, transferring calls, greeting visitors, faxing, knowledge/ use of postage meter, and most importantly maintaining confidentiality.

Name of Activity: College Access Program (CAP)

Description: Our district was awarded a grant from the Arizona Department of Commerce that would provide college access services to students and families. College Access Program (CAP) curriculum gets delivered during CREW period (similar to homeroom) for the students. For the parents, we have sessions throughout the year where I, along with college experts, come and deliver parent curriculum. The program consists of academic and career components, i.e. four year plans, standardized tests, GPA, Financial Aid and college decision-making skills.
